Hake’s Auctions is opening their next premier auction on Tuesday, October 29, 2024. The event is filled with 2,067 lots of historical and pop culture memorabilia, including a significant piece of rock ‘n’ roll history, very rare Star Wars figures, movie props, one of the most significant political campaign buttons, and more. The auction closes on Tuesday and Wednesday, November 19-20.

This auction goes all the way up to 11 with a Kurt Cobain stage used guitar that he smashed during a Nirvana concert in Olympia, Washington. The show was held in January 1991, months before the band would record Nevermind, the album that made them international superstars, led by the hit song “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” The guitar is a left-handed Memphis Stratocaster that a concert attendee took after it was destroyed, then gifted to a friend who owned it ever since.

The guitar is accompanied by several more Nirvana concert posters, records, Cobain autographs, and more. Among those lots is the original concert poster art featuring the debut of “Smells Like Teen Spirit.”

From one star to the next, the auction contains several top Star Wars collectibles. The Boba Fett rocket-firing prototype (L-slot) AFA 85 that never went into production is one of the most sought after Star Wars figures. Rarities continue with The Empire Strikes Back Princess Leia Organa (Bespin gown) 12” Series unproduced prototype doll and the Glasslite Star Wars: Droids Vlix AFA 80 single highest graded example.

The action figure highlights continue with The Adventures of Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark Bellox (ceremonial robe) Series 2 9-back AFA 50 that was initially offered as a mail-order premium. The Masters of the Universe Eternia Series 5 playset AFA 70 has the second release box featuring art by William George.

Movie props are showcased in this auction, led by a Wasp stunt helmet from 2018’s Ant-Man and the Wasp. The comic section is dominated by Marvel, particularly Silver Age keys like Amazing Spider-Man #1 CGC 7.5 (first J. Jonah Jameson and the Chameleon, first Fantastic Four crossover, Spider-Man’s origin retold) and Incredible Hulk #1 CGC 4.0 (origin and first appearance of the Hulk). Another Marvel highlight is the Marvel Comics Presents #114 cover by Steve Lightle showing Wolverine and Typhoid Mary.

The historical section includes the Cox/Roosevelt Club presidential campaign button Hake #1, which is the pinnacle of campaign button and is likened to Action Comics #1 or the Honus Wagner T206 baseball card. Speaking of baseball, Hake’s has the 1917 Collins-McCarthay E135 #82 Shoeless Joe Jackson PSA authentic-altered card. This auction will also see the debut of the Rex & Patti Stark Collection, which is the finest China collection Hake’s has seen.

Bidding will open on October 29 at hakes.com.
