Ron Ely, the actor who was known for playing Tarzan in the 1960s TV series, died on September 29, 2024. His daughter, Kirsten Casale Ely, recently announced that he died at his home. He was 86 years old.
Ely starred in Tarzan during the show’s two-season run from 1966 to 1968. This version of the story based on Edgar Rice Burroughs’ character was about a man who grew up in the jungle, then returned later after learning about civilized society.
He was born on June 21, 1938, in Hereford, Texas. Ely’s first role was in 1958’s South Pacific, followed by appearances in Father Knows Best and Steve Canyon. In addition to his work on Tarzan, Ely was in The Courtship of Eddie’s Father, Doc Savage: The Man of Bronze, Wonder Woman, the Love Boat, and Fantasy Island.
His later roles included appearances in the shows Sea Hunt, Superboy, L.A. Law, Hawkeye, and Renegade. His final project was the Lifetime movie, Expecting Amish, which came out in 2014.
