Return of the Living Dead is a 1985 zombie flick that infused punk rock and humor into the Living Dead franchise. Now, the cult classic horror film is chomping on a revival with new comics from American Mythology.
The four-issue miniseries is set in the 1980s as a direct sequel to the original film. Written by S.A. Check (Night of the Living Dead) and James Kuhoric (Tom Holland’s Fright Night), it will be illustrated by Andrea Arcari (Valentine Bluff’s Massacre). Mark Spears, Paul Maitland, Roy Allan Martinez, Buz Hasson, and Arcari are contributing covers to the miniseries.
American Mythology is releasing a special “More Brains” edition limited to just 250 copies of each cover. Every issue is serial numbered, has a special certificate of authenticity, and a More Brains sticker. The books are now available on American Mythology’s website.
“We’re excited to capture the incredible, unique spirit and energy of The Return of the Living Dead in comic book form,” Kuhoric, co-writer and American Mythology President, said.
The standard release of Return of the Living Dead #1 will be listed in the November issue of Diamond Comic Distributors’ PREVIEWS catalog. It is scheduled for release in January 2025.
“In their distinctive take on the zombie genre, you can see a lot of different influences, ranging from legends to EC comics horror. In the movies, it added up to a lot of fun, and our aim is to replicate their energy and enthusiasm while telling truly original stories,” Kuhoric said.
