Pulp and comic heroes are setting out on new adventures in the Savage Tales: Winter 2025 Special from Dynamite. The trio of stories are all written by David Avallone (Elvira, Bettie Page) and feature three new artists.
John Carter and Dejah Thoris appear in “Mutiny on Mars,” featuring art by Eman Casallos (Pathfinder). Captain Gullivar Jones stars in “His War,” with art by Kubert School graduate Hamish Munro-Cook. Vampirella leads “The Real Thing,” which is drawn by Kubert graduate Mariano Benitez-Chapo.
“This was a great opportunity for me to go back to a trio of characters I’ve always enjoyed writing,” Avallone said. “I’ve been a fan of John and Dejah since discovering them in my early teens. Vampirella was the first comics character I ever wrote, and I’ll always have a special affection for her. Finally, Dynamite gave me a chance to imagine a new future for Gullivar Jones in previous issues of Savage Tales, and I continue that story here.”
In addition to the new tales, the Red Sonja “Seeing Red” story by Kurt Busiek and Benjamin Dewey is reprinted in the issue. The oversized issue has cardstock covers by Arthur Suydam, Bjorn Barends, Joseph Michael Linsner, and cosplayer Rachel Hollon.
The Savage Tales: Winter 2025 Special is solicited in Diamond Comic Distributors’ December 2024 PREVIEWS catalog. It arrives in stores in February 2025.
