Sony has an early present for superhero fans. The studio has released the first eight minutes of Kraven the Hunter ahead of the movie’s theatrical debut on December 13, 2024.
The clip starts with an introduction by the film’s star Aaron Taylor-Johnson who states that the footage was originally shown at New York Comic Con and is now being shared with all audiences.
The movie opens in the snowy landscapes of Russia where a prison vehicle stops along the road and Kraven is revealed to be among the prisoners. He quickly gets on the bad side of several other inmates, and it becomes clear why the movie earned its R-rating, as Kraven viciously kills some of them. Kraven shows off his enhanced abilities, including his speed and strength, during the fight and his swift escape from the prison.
Kraven the Hunter is a Spider-Man universe spinoff that will tell the titular character’s origin story. “Kraven’s complex relationship with his ruthless father, Nikolai Kravinoff (Russell Crowe), starts him down a path of vengeance, motivating him to become not only the greatest hunter in the world, but also one of its most feared,” per the official synopsis.
This is the first of Sony’s Marvel movies to score an R-rating, based on its extreme violence. Directed by J.C. Chandor (A Most Violent Year), Kraven the Hunter also stars Ariana DeBose, Fred Hechinger, Christopher Abbott, Alessandro Nivola, Levi Miller, and Billy Barratt.
