Here he comes to save the day! Paramount Animation announced that Mighty Mouse is back for a new movie and an A-list comedy/action star is working on the project.
Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds’ production company Maximum Effort Productions will produce the animated movie. Matt Lieberman, the writer behind Free Guy (which starred Reynolds) is penning the script for the movie.
Mighty Mouse was introduced in 1942 in the short film The Mouse of Tomorrow, then the superhero mouse went on to star in dozens of animated shorts. The Mighty Mouse Playhouse ongoing series aired from 1955 to ’67, then he returned for the shows The New Adventures of Mighty Mouse and Heckle & Jeckle and Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures in the ‘80s. Mighty Mouse has also appeared in comics and books.
Paramount initially started work on a film adaptation in 2004, then they eyed a 2013 release, and it was pushed back to 2019, but stalled once again. Brad Bulter, Paramount Animation’s Vice President of Animated Features, is overseeing the project.
Lieberman’s writing credits in family-friendly entertainment also includes The Christmas Chronicles and its sequel, The Addams Family (2019), Scoob!, and Rumble.
Maximum Effort is currently developing several projects, including Boy Band about a music group reunion, an adaptation of the Eloise book series, and an adaptation of John Scalzi’s novel, Starter Villian.
