A fan-casting dream has become a reality: Jason Momoa will play Lobo. The Aquaman star will introduce the alien bounty hunter with a bad attitude in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
Momoa joined the DC Extended Universe as Arthur Curry/Aquaman with a cameo in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, then he starred in the team-up movie, Justice League. In 2018, he starred in his own Aquaman movie and followed up with the 2023 sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. He has long expressed interest in playing Lobo, even discussing it during the press tour for The Lost Kingdom.
Created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, Lobo stomped onto the scene in Omega Men #3 (June 1983). Lobo is quite formidable, possessing super-strength, superhuman endurance, and the ability to jump very far. He is quite large, standing over 7 feet tall, can track beings across galaxies, he can survive in space, replicate himself into clones, and is an incredible fighter.
The character has almost made it to the big screen a few times, but stalled repeatedly. When James Gunn and Peter Safran became the heads of DC Studios, they announced plans to recast some of the key character roles, while also being open to recasting some of the DCEU actors in new roles. Momoa is the first actor from that era to join Gunn and Safran’s new shared universe.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will star Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon) as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl, and will be directed by Craig Gillespie (Cruella). The movie will arrive in theaters in 2026.
