Godzilla has left Tokyo behind to stomp his way through the United States, in IDW Publishing’s Godzilla vs. America series. The standalone comics began with Godzilla vs. Chicago #1, and in April 2025, the kaiju is heading to Hollywood for Godzilla vs. Los Angeles #1.
The timing isn’t exactly great for a comic about a monster rampaging through LA when Los Angeles County has been ravaged by wildfires. Given that fact, IDW has committed to donate all proceeds from the sale of the book to the Book Industry Charitable Foundation (Binc). The money will be used to help comic shops and book stores affected by the fires to recover and rebuild.
In a press release, IDW explained that Godzilla vs. Los Angeles #1 has been in the works since July 2024 with a planned release for April 2025.
“We recognize the unfortunate coincidence of our comic’s theme with the recent devastating fires in Los Angeles. Godzilla, as a series, has often served as a metaphor for the impact of unprecedented tragedies stemming form human actions or natural causes. It is not our intention to capitalize on these recent events but rather to continue to explore themes that resonate with and reflect the human condition,” per the press release.
The book will feature four stories from the creative team of Gabriel Hardman (Green Lantern: Earth One), J. Gonzo (La Mano del Destino), Dave Baker (Mary Tyler Moorehawk), and Nicole Goux (Shadow of the Batgirl). It arrives in comic shops on April 30.
