The Fountain House Gallery in Hell’s Kitchen is hosting an exhibition of new art inspired by comic books. BIFF! BAM! POW! is filled with works that feature comic book characters or comic-inspiration created by members of the Fountain House Mental Health Clubhouse.
The artwork includes comic style pieces inspired by classic works and comic influence on original works. Artist Issa Ibrahim paid homage to Sandro Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus by reimagining the piece with Wonder Woman as the central figure surrounded by Superman, Hawkman, and Hawkgirl in the piece titled, Birth of Wonder.
Artist Madelein Hope Arthurs turned herself into a superhero on Super Pink. Alyson Vega painted a cityscape with the Fountain House logo shining in the sky like Batman’s Bat-signal over Gotham in Holy Mental Health Crisis Batman.
The show’s curator Marina Marchand stated that the “exhibition was conceived as a tribute to the medium and to groundbreaking artists and their genres...”
The exhibit is open now through February 19, 2025; the Fountain House Gallery is located at 702 9th Avenue in New York City.
