The Fantastic Four are finally entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel Entertainment released the first trailer for the long-awaited The Fantastic Four: First Steps, introducing the new team and the time period in which they will save the day.

The trailer opens with Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic (Pedro Pascal) and Sue Storm/Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby) introducing someone to their home at the Baxter Building. It gets domestic when Ben Grimm/the Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) works on dinner with their robot H.E.R.B.I.E., then there’s a flashback showing the team on the fateful mission that gave them superpowers.

We see Johnny Storm/Human Torch (Joseph Quinn) use his powers and the Thing (who appears comic-accurate) laments his rocky appearance. As Sue tells Reed that they’ll face whatever threat they face together, the trailer shows the team in action and ends with a shot of the very large head of Galactus towering over the Statue of Liberty.

The movie is set in what director Matt Shakman described as a “retro future” version of 1960s New York. The technology is advanced for the time, but everything still has the ‘60s aesthetic and style – as if it is what people in the ‘60s would assume the future would look like.

This will be the third live-action incarnation of the Fantastic Four to reach theaters since the 2000s. 20th Century Fox released films in 2005 and ’07 starring Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, and Michael Chiklis. Then in 2015 a new version of the team was created, starring Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, and Jamie Bell.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps will fly into theaters this summer on July 25, 2025.
