The Society of Illustrators has named the guests for the SI MoCCA Arts Festival on March 15-16, 2025 in New York City. Guests include Charles Burns, Michael DeForge, Jaime Hernandez, María Medem, Anders Nilsen, Linnea Sterte, Lale Westvind, Bianca Xunise, and others.
Burns returns to MoCCA after the publication of his Final Cut graphic novel, Kommix art book, and Unwholesome Love comic. DeForge is a prolific Canadian artist whose Holy Lacrimony graphic novel arrives in March. Hernandez is an indie comics creator known for the “Locas” stories in Love & Rockets and his new graphic novel, Life Drawing. Medem is a Spanish illustrator known for the Land of Mirrors graphic novel and art featured in the New York Times.
Nilsen is debuting his graphic novel, Tongues, about struggles in conflict zones. Sterte is a Swedish cartoonist known for her graphic novel, World Heist, and she provided this year’s MoCCA poster. Westvind is a comic creator behind the collection, Grand Electric Thought Power Mother. Xunise draws the Six Chix nationally syndicated comic strip and is author of the Punk Rock Karaoke graphic novel.
The guest list also includes Badiucao (You Must Take Part in Revolution), Olivia Fields (MoCCA badge art creator), John Hankiewicz (Hot House), Aidan Koch (Spiral and Other Stories), and Chloé Wary (Season of the Roses). Artists Bim Eriksson, Frances Jetter, Mattie Lubchansky, John Vasquez Mejias, Kay Sohini, Katie Skelly, and Adrian Tomine will also be featured at the show.
The artists will participate in the festival’s programing, and art by Hankiewicz, Koch, and Westvind will be in the Modern Comics exhibit opening at the Society of Illustrators on March 19.
The SI MoCCA Arts will be held at the SVA Flatiron Metropolitan Pavilion at 125 W 18th Street, with programming at the SVA Flatiron Gallery, located at 133 West 21st Street. Tickets are available for purchase online and at the door.
