Captain America is back and he’s saving the day at the box office. Captain America: Brave New World saw a total of $100 million domestically during its Valentine’s Day/President’s Day holiday weekend opening. Anthony Mackie’s first major outing as the patriotic superhero picked up an additional $98 million internationally for a four-day opening global total of $198 million.
Brave New World has had the biggest opening weekend of 2025, so far. It is also now the fourth highest grossing film to open on President’s Day weekend, following other MCU movies Black Panther, Deadpool, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
The fourth Captain America movie puts Sam Wilson front and center of an international incident, then follows his investigation into a global plot of mayhem and destruction. Sam and President Thaddeus Ross (Harrison Ford) form a begrudging alliance, Cap has a partner in the new Falcon, Joaquín Torres (Danny Ramirez), and Sidewinder (Giancarlo Esposito) creates chaos. Then of course, there’s also the introduction of Red Hulk.
Captain America: Brave New World is directed by Julius Onah (Luce), based on a script by Dalan Musson and Malcolm Spellman (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) and Matthew Orton (Moon Knight). It also stars Carl Lumbly, Rosa Salazar, Colby Lopez, Shira Haas, Takehiro Hira, and Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson. Tim Blake Nelson and Liv Tyler, who starred in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, are reprising their roles as Samuel Sterns and Betty Ross, respectively.
