Shiny! A Firefly reunion is heading to Resident Alien. Jewel Staite has been cast in a recurring role for the upcoming fourth season of the sci-fi comedy based on the comic by Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse. Staite is joining former Firefly costar Alan Tudyk who leads the show as Harry Vanderspeigle, an alien masquerading as a small town doctor.

The fourth season begins with Harry and his son held captive in the Grey Moonbase prison, while a shapeshifting Mantid alien has escaped to Earth where he is pretending to be Harry. When Harry escapes his captors, he heads back to Earth to stop the Mantid and learns that he may not have what he needs to defeat the other alien.

Meanwhile, Asta (Sara Tomko) and D’arcy (Alice Wetterlund) try to keep secrets from Ben (Levi Fiehler) and Kate (Meredith Garretson) who want answers to what happened to them last season. Sheriff Mike (Corey Reynolds) and Deputy Liv (Elizabeth Bowen) try to solve several murders that cause the sheriff to start thinking something other than human is involved.

Staite will play FBI agent Jules Gardner who has been assigned to work at the field office in Colorado Springs, and she went to high school with Asta, D’arcy, Ben, and Liv. She is sent to the area to investigate multiple murders that have taken place in and around Patience.

Staite and Tudyk starred in the short-lived cult classic Firefly TV series in 2002 – she played ship mechanic Kaylee Frye and he was pilot Hoban Washburne. She is also known for playing Dr. Jennifer Keller in Stargate: Atlantis and Abigail Bianchi in Family Law. She was also in The Killing, The Magicians, and Quantum Leap.
