The tactile experience of reading robot comics is getting an auditory feature. Skybound and Image have collaborated with Hasbro to release Transformers #1 Sound Chip Edition and Void Rivals #1 Sound Chip Edition. A signature Transformers shifting sound will emanate from the book when the cover is opened. Both will be available in the fall of 2025.

“It’s been an incredible opportunity to reimagine the world of Transformers through both our Transformers and Void Rivals comics series in the Energon Universe, so we’re excited to celebrate those debut issues by adding two of our favorite sounds effects ever into the experience,” Skybound Executive Editor Ben Abernathy said. “These are the first comics in Skybound history to feature sound chips, and I couldn’t imagine a better way to Roll Out a whole new way to experience two of the most important comic book launches of the decade.”

Void Rivals from Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead) and Lorenzo De Felici (Kroma) launched the shared Energon Universe when Transformers character Jetfire appeared in the first issue. Transformers #1 began a new era for the franchise from Daniel Warren Johnson (Extremity) and colorist Mike Spicer (Stillwater).

“Optimus Prime was supposed to have led the Autobots to victory. Instead, the fate of Cybertron is unknown, and his allies have crash-landed far from home, alongside their enemies – the Decepticons,” per the synopsis. “As these titanic forces renew their war on Earth, one thing is immediately clear: the planet will never be the same. New alliances are struck. Battle lines are redrawn. Humanity’s only hope for survival is Optimus Prime.”

The Sound Chip Editions include a Transformers #1 cover A Optimus Prime foil Autobot logo and cover B Starscream foil Decepticon logo, and Void Rivals #1 Jetfire foil Autobot logo.
