Comic book superheroes provided much needed escapism during the course of World War II. They also stepped up to fight in the war effort, and one of the most memorable covers from that time period appeared on Daredevil Battles Hitler #1.

Before Matt Murdock chose the name Daredevil, the moniker was used by Lev Gleason Publications character Bart Hill. Sporting a red and blue suit, Daredevil fought bad guys using his boxing and martial arts skills, acrobatics, and superior reflexes.

When Daredevil Battles Hitler #1 was published in 1941, it carried a cover price of 10¢. When Robert M. Overstreet published The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide #1 in 1970, a Near Mint copy was valued at $6. Ten years later, it had grown nearly 17 times in value to $90.

For The Guide #20, a copy of Daredevil #1 was up to $525. In 2000, it was over halfway to $10,000, landing at $5,600. It grew by over four times that amount for The Guide #40 when it had risen to $23,000. Momentum has slowed down since then and when The Guide #51 was published in 2021, a Near Mint copy of Daredevil #1 was valued at $25,000.
