What makes the best comic book covers? It is a great topic for debate. For us, as individuals, there is no wrong answer, of course; it is purely subjective. But, with a little thought it’s possible to explain what it is about a particular image that grabs you. The best images are the ones that make you stop and check out something you weren’t previously planning to purchase – and in some cases, you even end up picking up a title you’ve never even heard of before.
Cover-dated March 2019, this must-have book from DC Comics offered younger readers the exciting chance to experience the magic and majesty of Jack “King” Kirby’s Fourth World Saga for themselves. And, this unlikely place was within the pages of DC’s Scooby-Doo Team-Up #45.
Led by master escape artist Scott Free – better known to readers as Mister Miracle – and accompanied by the Amazonian heroine, Big Barda, and Scott’s faithful friend, Oberon, all the major cast of players make an appearance in this wonderful retelling of Kirby’s epic tale of good and evil.
But don’t get me wrong: This comic is not all Kirbyesque. In fact, the members of everybody’s favorite Scooby gang play their part and play it well. With that, writer Sholly Fisch and artist Dario Brizuela do their darnedest to bring what many believe to be Kirby’s most compelling characters to new greatness, and they all look to be in fine form.
Don’t take my word for it; check it out for yourself.
