Hal Jordan is a superhero with an astonishing amount of power, so naturally, he has a nemesis who is just as formidable. Sinestro is a former Green Lantern who was discharged for abusing power, and he became the leader of the Sinestro Corps, the Yellow Lanterns powered by fear. He was created by John Broome and Gil Kane, who introduced him in Green Lantern Vol. 2 #7 (July 1961) and has been behind several of Green Lantern’s most challenging threats.
When Sinestro was introduced, his debut issue had a cover price of just 10¢. Nine years later in 1970 when Robert M. Overstreet published The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide #1, a Near Mint copy was valued at $2.50. Ten years later it rose to $18 in the Guide #10, then after another decade it was up to $80 for 1990’s the Guide #20.
Sinestro’s first appearance jumped to $250 for the Guide #30, and took a big leap to $900 for 2010’s the Guide #40. In the Guide’s milestone 50th issue in 2020, it was up to $2,500. In 2024, a Near Mint copy of Green Lantern Vol. 2 #7 conjured a value of $3,900.
