Comic book fanatics of a certain age will experience a rush of nostalgia remembering the rickety, creaky spinner racks on which the weekly four-color haul would be displayed in their local five and dime or candy shop. The curator of the Pennsylvania Dutch collection would snag practically all the graphic goodness off those racks week after week in the colorful confines of the family shop.

“The collection was grouped chronologically when we sorted through it,” ComicConnect’s CEO Stephen Fishler said. “It was a real rush to see all these classic issues still gathered in order of their release, one after the other, and you could kind of picture this young reader growing year after year with the industry, from the Silver through the Bronze Age. It was endearing and enjoyable and I think some of that pure, unadulterated joy will really shine through when folks look through these on the site. It’s the most fun we’ve had processing a collection in a long time.”

Having been read once and then lovingly stored away, many of the books are “in like-new condition, and even the more “well-loved” copies boast sparkling color and terrific gloss,” Fishler continued. “This business has gotten so focused on super high grade keys, event books, and super-scarcities that it’s nice to get back to basics with a collection that was put together just out of real love for the hobby.”

“You can forget sometimes how cool and fun these comics were, and seeing them all together like this, in such nice shape, is a healthy reminder of why these supposedly disposable entertainments are still capturing imaginations up to fifty years on,” Fishler said.
