ComicConnect’s Event Auction #53 was filled with important keys, hundreds of original art lots, certified video tapes and games, and pulps. When the auction closed on Friday, March 17, 2023, it achieved multiple impressive sales.

“Event Auction #53 results are in and with yet another multi-million-dollar auction under our belts; I gotta tell you, this is a wonderful hobby to be such an important part of,” ComicConnect President Vincent Zurzolo said. “Now that the market headwinds are fading, we garnered more than a few record prices in grade. Again, thank you to every single participant on either side of the hammer. It is appreciated.”

Auction top sales were Captain America Comics #1 7.0 for $300,150, Batman #1 2.5 for $215,000, Whiz Comics #2 (#1) 5.5 for $188,600, Action Comics #1 for $126,500, Fantastic Four #5 9.4 for $126,500, and Superman #1 1.0 for $101,111.

Golden Age auction highlights include two high grade Gaines File Copies, a Crime SuspenStories #22 9.4 for $90,112, and a Mad #1 9.8 for $81,000, Venus #19 8.5 for $76,000, Detective Comics #34 8.0 for $20,000, Pep Comics #22 3.0 R for $29,000, and Vault of Horror #12 9.0 for $31,280.

Silver, Bronze, and Modern Age sales included Amazing Fantasy #15 6.5 for $91,355, Ultimate Fallout #4 9.8 (variant) for $34,755, Tales to Astonish #44 9.6 for $56,478, Amazing Spider-Man #1 6.5 for $25,875, and Tomb of Dracula #10 9.8 for $29,902.

Art highlights were Giant-Size Super-Villain Team-Up #2 by Gil Kane for $64,400, Al Milgrom’s cover to Marvel Team-Up #61 featuring Spider-Man and the Human Torch for $40,250, Amazing Spider-Man #311 page 6 by Todd McFarlane for $38,525, Defenders #10 page 6 by Sal Buscema for $24,150, and a Russ Manning Star Wars Sunday with the first strip appearance of Boba Fett for $20,125.

More comic sales were Amazing Fantasy #15 3.5 for $31,000, Amazing Spider-Man (Mexican) #128 8.5 for $24,999, Incredible Hulk #1 3.5 for $20,930, Superman #1 6.5 R for $78,775, TMNT #1 9.2 Signature Series for $26,591, and X-Men #12 9.6 for $41,911.

In the video game auction, the Nintendo World Championship collection broke $80,000 as the grey cartridge totaled $57,500, the Semi-Finals Cup went for $8,165, the Seattle Tombstone Plaque saw $5,980, and the duffle bag reached $4,715.

The VHS highlights were Pee-wee’s Big Adventure 9.0 for $6,210, Saturday Night Fever 8.5 for $4,600, and Sleepaway Camp 75 for $2,128.
