Hake’s Auctions is kicking off their premier Auction #239 with something spooky for the monster lovers and Halloween fiends. The auction opened for bids on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, featuring 1,909 lots of pop culture and historical memorabilia. Among the eclectic mix of memorabilia is an extremely rare monster piece.

The 1964 Frankenstein speaker complete with its original box is molded and painted to resemble Glenn Strange in his portrayal of Frankenstein’s Monster in Universal’s 1940s horror movies. The 7-1/2” tall figural speaker was made by Actwell Plastics Corp. based on sculpting by Clinton Plastics.

The illustrated cardboard box features images of the speaker, noting that it “plugs into: table radios, phonographs, transistor radios” and that it “connects to auto radios for use as rear deck speaker.” It is complete and in its original state with no repairs or restoration, including the 20” cord, three unused adhesive pads, and instruction sheet.

It can not be overstated how rare the speaker is and its status as one of the rarest and most desirable 1960s monster collectibles. It is hardly ever seen by itself, let alone complete with the original box, and is being offered by Hake’s for the first time in their 56 years.

Bidding in Hake’s Auction #239 is open at hakes.com now through Tuesday and Wednesday, November 14-15.
