On March 20-24, 2024, Heritage hosted the Treasures from Planet Hollywood Entertainment Auction, featuring props and costumes from a multitude of iconic films. Offering items from 1990s favorites, sci-fi and adventure franchises, horror greats, and classics from the golden age of Hollywood, the auction realized a total of $15,681,612.
The floating wood panel hero prop that was the setting for Rose DeWitt Bukater and Jack Dawson’s final moments together in Titanic led the auction with a $718,750 sale. Indiana Jones’ signature bullwhip from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom followed with $525,000. Ernie McCracken’s translucent “Red Rose” bowling ball from Kingpin rounded out the top three with a sale of $350,000.
Titanic accounted for multiple entries in the auction’s bestsellers, including the ship’s helm wheel for $200,000, ornate wooden flotation panel for $125,000, the chiffon “swim dress” Kate Winslet wore for $118,750, and the large brass engine order telegraph for $81,250.
Other popular 1990s movies were showcased in the auction with Dennis Nedry’s hero dinosaur embryo cryogenic smuggling device from Jurassic Park totaling $250,000. The knit snow cap that Macaulay Culkin wore in Home Alone went for $81,250 and Winifred Sanderson’s static book of spells from Hocus Pocus hammered for $68,750.
Star Wars sales included Princess Leia’s screen-used hero blaster from Return of the Jedi for $150,000 and an original Static E-11 Stormtrooper blaster from A New Hope for $112,500.
The golden age of Hollywood entries were led by the pink Ombré halter dress that Marilyn Monroe wore in Let’s Make Love that sold for $137,500. Judy Garland’s pinafore test costume from The Wizard of Oz whipped up a $57,500 sale.
Sports-related items included Shaquille O’Neal’s photo-matched complete game worn Los Angeles Lakers jersey and shorts that grabbed $262,500. The Knights uniform shirt and signed jacket that Robert Redford wore in The Natural went for $81,250 and Kevin Costner’s baseball uniform from Bull Durham reached $81,250.
The horror genre took a piece of the action when Jack Torrance’s hero axe from The Shining went for $125,000. A Good Guys Chucky doll from Child’s Play brought $106,250 and the Vlad the Impaler red armor display figure from Bram Stoker’s Dracula reached $87,500.
Costumes that Tobey Maguire wore in Spider-Man 3 were up for grabs in the auction. The black symbiote suit sold for $125,000 and the Spider-Man suit, mask, and undersuit realized $106,250.
Additional Indiana Jones sales included the set of three Sankara Stones from Temple of Doom for $100,000 and Indy’s grail cup from The Last Crusade for $87,500.
