Heritage’s International Comic Art Signature Auction on October 12-13, 2024, features many familiar faces. Led by the adventuring teenager Tintin, the auction also offers art of Batman, Krazy Kat, Donald Duck, Swamp Thing, Tarzan, and Vampirella.
Tintin appears on Hergé’s Les Aventures de Tintin, Le Sceptre d’Ottokar original cover from the February 16, 1939 issue of the Belgian newspaper, Le Petit Vingtième. The art shows Tintin and his dog pal, Snowy, walking beside a butler on his way to meet the King of Syldavia.
Matt Wagner’s Batman #635 cover is a dramatic battle image between Batman and Red Hood as lightning splits the scene. This key issue reintroduced Jason Todd, the second Robin who had been murdered by the Joker and was resurrected as Red Hood.
Neal Adams’ Batman #251 story page 13 sees the Dark Knight starting to uncover “The Joker’s Five-Way Revenge!” This page was a rare instance when Adams penciled and inked the art, featuring five panels of Batman.
Argentine writer-artist Juan Giménez’s The Metabarons: No Name, The Last Metabaron #8 cover featuring a portrait of the title character. This cover wrapped the series that follows a celestial clan of warriors who are pitted against the Techno Empire.
Dave Gibbons and John Higgins’ Watchmen #6 cover for the French edition of the notable series by Gibbons and Alan Moore. The cover features multiple images of Adrian Veidt as Ozymandias, his pet Bubastis, and the Doomsday Clock.
“In every piece of comic art, there lies a story not just of the characters, but of the creators and fans who breathe life into them,” Heritage’s Director of International Comic Art and Anime Olivier Delflas said. “This auction is a tribute to the artistry and passion that have shaped generations, uniting timeless icons like Tintin, Batman and Metabarons in a shared legacy. It’s not just about owning a piece of history; it’s about celebrating the imagination that continues to inspire us whether we’re readers or collectors.”
