Pedigree’s October Grand Auction is open with many more books being added throughout the weekend into Monday due to Hurricane Milton, according to Pedigree CEO and President Doug Schmell. This auction debuts a selection of magazines from the Massachusetts pedigree. The auction just began on Friday, October 11, 2024 and lasts for 12 days until Tuesday, October 22 as a separate event on the Pedigree Comics website.
There is no buyer’s premium on any of the lots in the auction and every book and magazine is listed with no reserve. Every book and magazine is CGC-certified and the minimum bid is only $30 for this auction. Over 200 magazines (with another 100 coming soon) from the high grade Massachusetts and non-pedigree magazines can be viewed in the Auction Preview on the Pedigree Comics website.
Over half of the magazines in the auction come from the Massachusetts Collection, which was founded in 1993 by dealer Marnin Rosenberg after responding to an ad in the Comic Buyers Guide. The collection contained approximately 4,000 comic books from various publishers and approximately 500 Marvel magazines. Schmell purchased the entire run of Massachusetts magazines directly from Marnin Rosenberg in the early 2000s and began selling them piecemeal on his website beginning in 2006. The bulk of the magazines were recently certified by CGC in the last week with most of them in 9.6 to 9.8 grade.
Marvel magazine titles in the collection include Savage Sword of Conan (best run of the collection with over 100 issues between #1-235, plus Annual #1), Marvel Preview, Planet of the Apes, Crazy, Savage Tales, Deadly Hands of Kung Fu, Rampaging Hulk, Hulk, Tales of the Zombie, Dracula Lives, and more.
This first part of the magazine auction also contains a run of Creepy and Eerie from a collection out of Toronto, Ontario, Canada plus a run of Vampirella, all in high grade. There are numerous highest graded copies as well.
Details and specific titles from Pedigree’s Marvelous Massachusetts Marvel Magazine Mania Auction Part I will be shared in the “Latest News” section on Pedigree’s website, as well as on Scoop.

There are three ways to consign your books to Pedigree’s Marvelous Massachusetts Marvel Magazine Mania Auction Part I. The only criteria is that the books must be CGC or CBCS-graded and worth no less than $30. If you have high grade raw books that you want to have certified and sold in the auction or a future Grand Auction, you can utilize Pedigree’s Raw To Riches Consignment Service, in which they will have your books certified under their account and will lay out all the CGC or CBCS-grading fees in advance for you (refer to the website and their Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide advertisement for all the details of the Raw to Riches Consignment Service).
To consign you can ship your books directly to their offices in Wellington, Florida. They will inventory, scan, and upload each book into the Grand Auction listing. The books will be listed under your personal account and you will receive email notification at the conclusion of the auction with a list of every consigned book that sold along with the winning bid made.
Email the scans of the books you wish to consign directly to them at DougSchmell@pedigreecomics.com. They will format and upload each scan onto their server and then put each book into the Grand Auction listing. Use a .jpeg format with the resolution set at 72 and the pixel width at 1200 for optimum clarity. If you do not have a scanner you can use a digital camera.
You can upload your own scans, item information, book or art descriptions and reserve amounts, if any, by utilizing their Automated Consignment System. Just register onto the site and login, click the “Customer Page” tab under “Your Account” and then click “Consignments” (under the “Auctions” heading). You will then be able to enter the Pedigree Comics Consignment Management System and list your own CGC- or CBCS-certified books. Pedigree will receive an email once you have uploaded the scan and book information for each individual item into the system and they will then review the information imparted for accuracy. The items will then be added to the Grand Auction listing to be bid on.
