Created by writer Roy Thomas and artist Todd McFarlane, Artemis Crock made her debut appearance in Infinity, Inc. #34 in 1987. As the daughter of Golden Age villains Paula Brooks (Huntress) and Crusher Crock (Sportsmaster), Artemis initially followed in her parents’ footsteps to take up a life of crime. The Olympic level athlete has increased speed and agility, as well as enhanced skills as a hunter and tracker. Her arsenal includes a compact crossbow and a quiver of arrows, knives, nets, and bolas. While she briefly took up the mantle of Tigress, she typically uses her first name as her alias.

During the events of the DC Legends miniseries, Artemis used the ensuing chaos to break her parents out of the Empire State Detention Center. Shortly thereafter she joined the Wizard in his new Injustice Society known as Injustice Unlimited. After narrowly escaping imprisonment, Artemis teamed up with Icicle and Hazard, as well as the new Harlequin, the Dummy, and Solomon Grundy. Throughout this period of her criminal career, Artemis began going by Tigress and entered into an on-again, off-again relationship with Icicle. A later series saw Artemis join Alexander Luthor, Jr.’s Secret Society of Super Villains, while another introduced Tigress and Icicle’s daughter Isabelle Rose Mahkent.

In 2011, as part of the New 52 reboot, a new version of Artemis was introduced in the Teen Titans “Culling” crossover. Here, she assists the Teen Titans before being killed by then villain Harvest. Her death is what pushes the Teen Titans into action, but they later discover that Artemis was healed by the Colonel of Harvest’s facility, as part phase two of Harvest’s plans. Outside of the comics, Artemis has made appearances on the animated television series Batman: The Brave and the Bold and Young Justice. Madison McLaughlin also portrays Evelyn Sharp, a/k/a Artemis, on the live-action series Arrow.

While she regularly serves as both a hero and a villain, the character played a major superheroic role in the TV series Young Justice. Although she supposedly exited the series at the end of season three, did you know the character is preparing to suit up once more? During Comic-Con 2018, the latest trailer for Young Justice: Outsiders saw the return of several familiar faces. It seems Nightwing is back and bringing together Superboy, a bearded Aqualad, and Artemis for one last mission.

He even goes as far as to say, “When it’s all over, we go our separate ways. No muss, no fuss.” Sure Nightwing, sure.

Young Justice: Outsiders is dropping on DC's new digital platform, DC Universe, in early 2019.
