Created by Adventure Time’s Pendleton Ward, Bravest Warriors is an animated series that streams on Cartoon Hangover’s YouTube channel. Set in the year 3085, the series revolves around a group of four teenage heroes for hire as they travel through the universe working to save various aliens and their worlds.

The main team consists of Christopher “Chris” Kirkman, Beth Tezuka, Daniel “Danny” Vasquez, and Wallow. First introduced in the comic adaptation, the amphibious alien Plum is the unofficial fifth member of the Bravest Warriors. Outside of the core team, the series features many popular secondary characters. Easily one of the most popular is the half-cat, half-ladybug, Catbug. Created in Johnny Tezuka’s Dimension Garden, Catbug serves as a friend and comrade to the Bravest Warriors…although his childlike personality often interferes with his ability to complete a mission.

While he acts like a 10-year-old, it is implied that he is, in fact, several decades old. His personality makes him seem simpler and more carefree, although he has been shown to have a darker side. Despite his small stature Catbug is quite strong, possesses the ability to fly, and can teleport between the real world and the See-Through Zone, but only at random. Catbug also has the ability to transform into a large winged lion and open space portals, however, he has never used these abilities in the presence of the warriors for reason unknown.

Although initially introduced as a secondary characters, Catbug has gone on to enjoy massive internet fame. Since his first appearance, Catbug became popular with videos centering on him garnering more than 25 million views. On TikTok, the character has garnered 135 million views, while character is also popular as a gif with over 200 million loops on Giphy.com.

Now it seems the adorable alien and his quirky lines will be leading a show all his own. According to reports, Frederator Studios has begun shopping a Catbug series to streaming and linear networks with plans to supplement it with a social networking plan, short-form animated videos, e-books and web comics. Considering the mass appeal the property has already demonstrated in the Gen Z realm, a solo series seems an obvious next step.
