Cassandra Cain is a woman of few words, a detective, and a hero. She’s an expert martial arts fighter, in excellent physical shape, and she can anticipate her opponent’s moves. During her career in super-heroics, Cassandra has gone by many names, including Batgirl and Orphan. At one point, she was the Black Bat.
Cas was created by Kelley Puckett and Damion Scott, who introduced her 25 years ago in Batman #567 (July 1999). After acting as Batgirl for nearly a decade, she left Gotham and went undercover, following the orders of Bruce Wayne. Debuting as Black Bat in Batman Incorporated #6 (May 2011), she had moved to Hong Kong and was acting as a vigilante there.
When Batman decided to create a global team, Tim Drake went to Hong Kong to persuade Cas to join. Eventually she did, taking the name Black Bat, and her first big act was to stop a drug smuggling operation. After new villain Architect destroyed multiple bridges in Gotham using explosives he smuggled out of Hong Kong, Cas returned to the city.
She joined Red Robin, Nightwing, and Robin, but there was tension between Cas and the ill-tempered Damian Wayne. Despite his insults, Cas ended up saving Damian from an explosion at Oswald Cobblepot’s nightclub. The two then had to work together to dispose of explosives that the Architect was going to use to flood Gotham.
Later, Cas infiltrated a fighting tournament to save Red Robin, but was caught herself. To save them both, Cas faked killing Red Robin, allowing them to escape. Together, they traveled to Hong Kong to stop Cricket, a 10-year-old assassin.
