Isabella Magdalena Gnucci, aka Ma Gnucci, is a Marvel villain created by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon. She is the head of a New York crime family that ran afoul of the Punisher, and the two engaged in many violent conflicts.
Ma Gnucci debuted in The Punisher Vol. 5 #4 (July 2000), though she was mentioned and heard over the phone in the first few issues of the book. She was the head of the largest organized crime family in New York, and became a target of the Punisher. After he killed her three sons, Ma Gnucci pushed her connections at the NYPD to establish a task force to bring him in. She also tasked her consigliere with hiring three assassins to kill him – all four of whom were instead killed by the Punisher. In retaliation for her attacks, Punisher then killed Ma Gnucci’s brother and Dino, her underboss.
The Punisher pursued Ma Gnucci and her goons into the Central Park Zoo where he released several animals as a distraction. She was brutally attacked by a group of polar bears who tore off all four of her limbs and her scalp. Enraged by her traumatic injuries, Ma Gnucci put the word out that she’d pay $10 million to whoever killed the Punisher. She also learned where he lived and sent her crime family to kill him, but the Punisher used his frighteningly good skills to kill the would-be assassins. The Punisher was wounded in the melee, so Ma Gnucci sent the Russian to finish the job.
Once again, the Punisher bested his foe, and decided to end their conflict once and for all. He drove to Ma Gnucci’s mansion and showed her remaining underlings the Russian’s severed head, prompting them to abandon their post. His next move was to set Ma Gnucci’s mansion on fire and watch while she dragged herself out a window. Her last gasp of rage was to bite the Punisher’s leg, and he responded by kicking her back into the house where she burned to death.
