Connor Hawke is a martial arts master and expert archer who became the second Green Arrow. He was created by Kelley Puckett and Jim Aparo and introduced as Oliver Queen’s eldest son, who he had with Sandra “Moonday” Hawke.

He debuted 30 years ago in Green Arrow Vol. 2 #0 (October 1994). Connor was studying at an ashram when he first met Oliver Queen. The ashram was a place where Oliver had retreated to in the past, so he returned there after taking out Parallax, which had used his best friend, Hal Jordan, as a host. Connor was a fan of Green Arrow, so he did what he could to help his hero make peace with what he had done.

Connor became Ollie’s sidekick, and the pair learned that they were father and son from the ghost of Hal Jordan. While investigating a group of eco-terrorists, Oliver was trapped with a bomb on a plane that was heading for Metropolis. He diverted the plane away from the city and was killed in the explosion. After his father made the sacrifice, Connor decided to become the new Green Arrow.

He quickly made allies with other young heroes like Tim Drake and Kyle Rayner, and enemies like the Monkey Fist martial arts group. After Connor defeated Silver Monkey in combat, the Monkey Fist started attacking martial arts schools to prove they were the best. Lady Shiva challenged Connor to a fight and nearly killed him before Tim Drake interceded on his behalf, asking her to spare Connor’s life because Tim had once saved hers.

Connor redeemed himself when he saved the Justice League of America from the Key. He stopped the Key’s robots with his father’s old trick arrows, saving the boxing glove arrow for a final punch that knocked out the Key. It was then that Connor became a member of the JLA.

He stayed with the team for a while, but decided that he preferred to be a street level hero and downgraded himself to reserve member status. In one of his missions, he ended up working alongside a young Hal Jordan who had been displaced in time. Connor retreated back to the ashram, though he returned to the outside world to help Robin when his roommate from Brentwood Academy was attacked by a demon. He also teamed with Robin, Batgirl, and Spoiler to save Robin’s father from a cult.
