King Shark, aka Nanaue is a DC villain with a penchant for, well, eating people. He is a demigod and humanoid shark with all of the predatory aspects of the powerful animal, plus the ability to regenerate, telepathically communicate with his family, and he has a mystically powered bite. Created by Karl Kesel and Tom Grummett, King Shark has been a member of the Suicide Squad and Secret Society of Super Villains.

King Shark had a cameo in Superboy Vol. 4 #0 (October 1994) then his first full appearance was 30 years ago in Superboy Vol. 4 #9 (November 1994). A native of Hawaii, King Shark had killed several people around the islands until Sam Makoa captured him in a bloody fight. The Silicon Dragons helped him to get free because they wanted to hire him for a job. Since he wasn’t interested in working for them, he killed them and headed home, then was stopped by Superboy.

Later, Superboy, Makoa, and King Shark were forced to work together as a part of the Suicide Squad. King Shark was a killing machine, taking out many of the Dragons, and a teammate who betrayed the Suicide Squad. When he became too volatile, Superboy defeated King Shark and sent him back out to sea.

Following another loss against Superboy in the Wild Lands, King Shark joined Manchester Black’s Legion of Villains. He traveled to Metropolis where he attacked Jimmy Olsen, prompting a fight with Superman where the Man of Steel knocked out most of his teeth. One he had healed, Alexander Luthor asked King Shark to become a member of the Secret Society of Super Villains. They attacked Sub Diego and King Shark killed Neptune Perkins in the battle.

Following the events in Infinite Crisis, King Shark returned as a less violent and more articulate character. Though he is more in control of his actions, Nanaue still has a pretty mean bite.
