Mark Mardon, aka Weather Wizard is a DC villain who manipulates the weather during his dastardly schemes. He has been a solo act and a member of villain teams like the Flash’s Rogues and Secret Society of Super Villains. Weather Wizard was created by John Broome and Carmine Infantino, who introduced him in The Flash #110 (January 1960).
Mark’s brother Clyde was a scientist who created a way to control the weather, and when Clyde died, Mark used his research to create a wand that could manipulate the weather. He could use the wand to summon lightning, create fog, wind, and blizzards, and he gained the ability to fly by controlling air currents. Armed with his new, powerful weapon Mark became a criminal.
In the aftermath of Crisis on Infinite Earths, Weather Wizard learned that he had a son from a one night stand with police officer Julie Jackham. Their son, Josh, exhibited the ability to control the weather without using an instrument like Mark’s wand. Envious of this, Weather Wizard hatched a plan to kidnap his son and study him – but he became reluctant to harm the boy. Before he could do any damage to Josh, the Flash stopped Weather Wizard and he was sent to Iron Heights.
Once he escaped from prison, Weather Wizard joined Captain Cold, Trickster, and Mirror Master on a host of new schemes that were often thwarted by the Flash. He also represented the Rogues within the Secret Society of Super Villains.
