Emma Frost is a very powerful mutant with a slate of high level telepathic abilities and the power to turn herself into organic diamond. She rose to prominence as a supervillain and enemy of the X-Men, then eventually transitioned to being a superhero. She is also well known as the White Queen of the Hellfire Club, an organization of wealthy people who seek to influence and manipulate the world around them.

Emma Frost was created by Chris Claremont and John Byrne, who introduced her 45 years ago in The Uncanny X-Men #129 (January 1980). She was born into a wealthy Boston family, though her life was anything but easy. Her father, Winston, was domineering and cold, while her mother, Hazel, was addicted to prescription drugs, and she was bullied by classmates.

Once her telepathic abilities emerged, things started to get easier, she became a tutor, and considered becoming a teacher (despite her father’s disapproval). One day, she read the mind of her favorite teacher Ian Kendall, and learning that he found her attractive, she kissed him. Her sister recorded the incident, showed her father, and he had Ian fired.

She left home to get away from her father, and fell in love with a man named Troy. When Emma learned that he owed a mobster money, she participated in a fake kidnapping to get the money from her dad. Things went sideways, and the kidnapping became a real one, and Troy was killed while trying to save Emma from Lucien. Emma used her power to turn Lucien’s henchmen against each other, she escaped and called the police.

Emma used the ransom money to enroll at Empire State University, where she became friends with fellow telepath Astrid Bloom. When she discovered that Astrid was using her powers to manipulate situations, Emma was angry and attacked her, putting Astrid in a coma. She was then invited to join the Hellfire Club and learned that Steven Lang and Edward Buckman had plans to kill all mutants. Emma and other Hellfire Club members fought Lang’s Sentinels, she killed Buckman and the Council of the Chosen. Leveraging her success, she and Sebastian Shaw wrested control of the Hellfire Club and she became the White Queen.
