Netflix has dropped a surprise, first teaser trailer for the Texas Chainsaw Massacre reboot that reintroduces the series by paying homage to the 1974 classic.

The trailer dropped on the Netflix Geeked Twitter account, showing ominous shots of the infamous house of murder and mayhem. The reminder of the film’s 1974 roots is followed by the message that, “In 2022 the face of madness returns.” Once Leatherface unearths his seemingly abandoned, cobweb covered chainsaw from a hidden crevice, the intensity is ratcheted up with flashes of his frightened victims and the image of his new…face.

This installment of the series follows the original film without including what happened in the previous sequels, similar to the approach of the current Halloween series.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre drops on Netflix on February 18, 2022. It is directed by relative newcomer David Blue Garcia. Mark Burnham is stepping into the role of Leatherface. The cast includes Alice Krige, Elsie Fisher, Nell Hudson, Sarah Yarkin, Moe Dunford, William Hope, Jacob Latimore, and Olwen Fouéré.
