CGC is looking to hire VHS experts for a new division to authenticate, grade, and encapsulate VHS tapes. It will be a branch under CGC’s third party grading services, expanding from comic books, magazines, concert posters, and more.

This follows recent grading service expansion at CGC, including the addition of trading cards in 2020 and the upcoming launch of the video game grading. According to CGC, they have now surpassed 10 million collectibles certified, including their reported sale of Superman #1 CGC 8.0 that sold for a record $5.3 million.

VHS tape collecting is a hobby that’s been steadily growing in popularity, especially for the most beloved titles from the 1980s and ‘90s. Some of the biggest names have included Star Wars: A New Hope, The Terminator, The Karate Kid, and classic Disney movies.

CGC is looking for VHS experts with comprehensive knowledge, expertise in production and condition of VHS tapes (along with packaging and boxes), ability to recognize counterfeit and altered VHS tapes, skill to grade VHS tapes, and knowledge of variants.

“Collecting VHS tapes is getting more popular by the minute, and CGC cannot wait to serve this burgeoning community with expert certification services,” CCG CEO Steven R. Eichenbaum said. “We are ready to talk to and potentially hire VHS experts who can help us press play in this growing market.”
