In 1999, George Lucas reinvigorated his Star Wars franchise with the start of the prequel trilogy. The Phantom Menace introduced many new characters, like a young Obi-Wan Kenobi, Luke and Leia’s parents, and of course, the infamous Jar Jar Binks. Now, Ahmed Best, the actor who portrayed the Gungan outcast turned Naboo council representative, is getting a new shot at Star Wars with a guest appearance on The Mandalorian.

But don’t expect to see Jar Jar (at least not yet). Best appeared in the March 22 episode of The Mandalorian as Jedi Knight Kelleran Beq. To avoid spoilers for those who haven’t seen it yet, let’s just say that Beq has a past connection to one of The Mandalorian’s characters. Given the content of his guest appearance, we could be seeing more of Best as Jedi Knight Beq.

Best’s performance as Jar Jar Binks has had one of the most polarizing effects on Star Wars fans. When the movie came out, adult fans criticized his goofy, obnoxious behavior, while kids (now young adults) found his antics charming and funny. Jar Jar had a prominent role in The Phantom Menace, but the prequel filmmakers pulled back on his appearances in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.

This isn’t the first time that Best played Beq. He appeared as Beq to host the 2020 online children’s game show, Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge. He also had a non-Jar Jar cameo in Attack of the Clones as Achk Med-Beq, a patron of Coruscant’s Outlander Club.

Best’s episode of The Mandalorian is now live on Disney+.
