The fantasy comic Pathfinder and science-fantasy Starfinder are getting the graphic novel treatment via Dynamite Entertainment on Kickstarter. The campaign will produce hardcover editions of Pathfinder: Wake the Dead and Starfinder: Angels of the Drift, and a collection of the Pathfinder: Worldscape crossover specials. Backers will receive roleplaying game content in each volume and more.

Wake the Dead is the eighth volume in the Pathfinder line, written by Fred Van Lente (Amazing Spider-Man) with art by Eman Casallos (Vampirella). It starts with a group of heroes trying to find a defector of Geb, who knows an important secret from the undead nation. The city’s Deathsealers corner the group who must band together to survive and escape.

“I’m thrilled to be back writing Pathfinder comics, and even more excited to be writing a whole new party meeting and adventuring together for the very first time,” Van Lente said.

Starfinder: Angels of the Drift is the first comic series set in the roleplaying game’s Pact Worlds setting when a disaster in the hyperspace dimension has damaged the galaxy’s ability to travel safely between worlds. The series is based on Pathfinder, set in the future where it blends magic and technology. Starfinder’s first creative director James L. Sutter is writing the series with Edu Menna (Army of Darkness) providing the art.

Starfinder is all about exploring the galaxy and having epic adventures, but at the end of the day it’s also about your real world experience as a player, sitting around a table having fun with your friends,” Sutter said. “I think the comic zeroes in on that feeling of camaraderie – the banter, the conflict, but also the knowledge that no matter how high the stakes get, your friends have your back. That heart is just as important as the daring laser battles and captivating alien worlds.”

Pathfinder: Worldscape Vol. 3 will collect Worldscape: Vampirella, Worldscape: Dejah Thoris, Worldscape: Reanimator, and Worldscape: Swords of Sorrow with stories by Paizo’s CCO and publisher Erik Mona.

The Kickstarter campaign is open through June 12, 2023.
