It’s time to get in the spirit of Halloween with some family-friendly holiday themed music. In 1996, Andrew Gold released the album, Halloween Howls: Fun & Scary Music, featuring cute seasonal songs that are perfect for any all-ages party or trick ‘r’ treat outing.
According to the original liner notes for the album, Gold recognized the lack of Halloween music, aside from sound effects, so he developed Halloween Howls. He sought musicians and singers to collaborate with him, including Linda Ronstadt, David Cassidy, and Nicolette Larson. It contains original songs like “Spooky, Scary Skeletons,” as well as remakes of classics like “The Monster Mash.”
Now, Craft Recordings is rereleasing the album on a new vinyl pressing and CD, including a remix of “Witches, Witches, Witches” by The Living Tombstone. The limited edition vinyl is getting a bone-colored pressing. The deluxe CD has new cover art by Jess Rotter, who is known for psychedelic designs on releases for the Grateful Dead, Questlove, and others.
The Halloween Howls: Fun & Scary Music track list includes “It Must Be Halloween,” “Monster Mash,” “Spooky, Scary Skeletons,” “Trick or Treat,” “The Addams Family,” “Ghostbusters,” “Gimme A Smile (The Pumpkin Song),” “Don't Scream (It’s Only Halloween),” “The Creature From The Tub,” “Halloween Party,” “Witches, Witches, Witches,” “In Our Haunted House,” and “Spooky, Scary Skeletons (Undead Tombstone Remix).”
It is open for preorders in multiple formats.
