Turn that frown upside down. Paramount Pictures has announced the release date for Smile 2, the sequel to director Parker Finn’s hit horror film, Smile. The highly anticipated sequel will arrive in theaters on October 18, 2024.

The first movie is based on Finn’s 2019 short film, Laura Hasn’t Slept, starring Caitlin Stasey (Reign) and Lew Temple (The Walking Dead), which became a prequel to Smile. The feature film starred Sosie Bacon (Mare of Easttown) as therapist Rose Cutter who starts having disturbing hallucinations after seeing a patient kill herself while smiling. Smile also starred Jessie T. Usher, Kyle Gallner, Robin Weigert, Caitlin Stasey, and Kal Penn.

During Smile’s theatrical run in 2022, it earned $217 million at the global box office, against a $17 million budget. A sequel was announced in April 2023 with Finn attached to write and direct Smile 2.

Before it was a box office and critical success, Smile got attention for its marketing scheme in which actors were planted at public events like baseball games to give the creepy smile when the camera came their way.

Smile is available on Blu-ray and DVD, and is currently streaming on Paramount+.
