The long-running Saw horror movie franchise received a significant boost in momentum with 2023’s Saw X. The highly successful tenth installment quickly prompted Lionsgate to greenlight Saw XI, and tap Saw X director Kevin Greutert to helm the film.

Greutert is well versed in the franchise, having also directed Saw VI and Saw: The Final Chapter, and serving as editor on Saw I-V and Jigsaw. Additionally, he directed the horror movies Jessabelle and Jackals.

The Saw franchise centers around John Kramer (Tobin Bell), aka Jigsaw, who puts people into horrifying traps where the only chance of survival requires a physical pain. The terminally ill character died in the third movie, however, Bell continued to appear in later films in flashbacks while his disciples continued his work. Instead of following suit Saw X was set between the first and second movies when Kramer was still alive. This move also meant that they could bring back his main accomplice, Amanda Young (Shawnee Smith).

The premise for Saw XI has not been revealed, including when it will be set and who will appear in the movie – namely Bell, Smith, and other Jigsaw partner, Detective Mark Hoffman (Costas Mandylor). It is scheduled for release on September 27, 2024.
