Joker director Todd Phillips is starting to market his highly anticipated sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux. Phillips dropped the first poster for the film and announced when the first trailer will be released.

Joaquin Phoenix is back as Arthur Fleck/Joker and he’s joined by Grammy and Oscar winner Lady Gaga who is introduced in the sequel as Harley Quinn. The poster shows the Joker and Harley in their clownish makeup and evening wear, dancing under a spotlight. The poster’s tagline states “The World is a Stage” above the movie’s release date of October 4, 2024.

Phillips shared the poster on Instagram, which was accompanied by text revealing that the first trailer will arrive on April 9.

Unlike the original, which was a regular drama, Joker: Folie à Deux will be a musical that follows the bad romance between Joker and Harley. Much of the movie is rumored to take place at Arkham Asylum, though that hasn’t been confirmed. It picks up after the Joker admitted to murdering people on the subway, kills TV host Murray Franklin live on the air, and is arrested and sent to Arkham.

The movie also stars Catherine Keener, Brendan Gleeson, Ken Leung, Steve Coogan, and Zazie Beetz is back as Sophie Dumond.

Joker: Folie à Deux is part of DC’s new Elseworlds banner that contains the movies set outside of the main DC Universe created by James Gunn and Peter Safran. So far, this includes the Joker sequel and The Batman: Part II.
