It’s prom season in Shadyside! Netflix has announced that their next film adaptation of R.L. Stine’s Fear Street young adult horror novel series will arrive in 2025.
Fear Street: Prom Queen is set in 1988 when the big night becomes an evening the town will always remember. The popular girls of Shadyside High are engaging in a nasty campaign for the desirable title of prom queen. The status quo is interrupted when an outsider is nominated to the prom court and other girls start to disappear, changing the class of ’88 forever.
Netflix took their first walk down Fear Street in 2021 with a trilogy of films set in three different time periods but linked together by a curse. Titled Fear Street: 1994, Fear Street: 1978, and Fear Street: 1666 the slasher style movies featured multiple creative villains and embraced the clothing, music, and attitudes of their respective times. The trilogy ended with a post credits scene of a person taking the magical book that caused the mayhem for 300 years.
Fear Street: Prom Queen is directed by Matt Palmer, who co-wrote the movie with Donald McLeary, based on Stine’s 1992 book, The Prom Queen. It stars India Fowler (The Nevers), Suzanna Son (Red Rocket), Fina Strazza (Paper Girls), David Iacono (The Summer I Turned Pretty), Ella Rubin (The Idea of You), Chris Klein (American Pie), Lili Taylor (Outer Range), Katherine Waterston (The End We Start From), and Ariana Greenblatt (Barbie).
