From a hypnotic vampire to a seafaring teenage girl, trailers released in October 2024 covered the gamut of genres. In live-action and animation, upcoming movies and shows have teased the creation of a team of villains, a dad turning into a monster, and more. Below are some of the big trailers released over the last few weeks.
Dune: Prophecy
The Dune: Prophecy TV show is based on Sisterhood of Dune, the prequel novel by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. It is set 10,000 years before the events in Frank Herbert’s Dune sci-fi epic. The trailer opens by warning of troubles that are “greater than just Arrakis.” The show is set after a fight against AI led to outlawing computers, so humans are pushing their limits to maintain society without technology. There’s a plan to wipe out the Sisters, who are prominent figures in powerful circles and with noble families. It will show the Atreides and the beginning of the Harkonnen family and the great lengths they’ll go to get what they want. It will start streaming its six-episode season on Max on November 17, 2024.
Moana 2
Moana (Auli’i Cravalho) is back and ready to use her connection to the ocean to once again help her people. Walt Disney has released a new special look trailer for Moana 2, providing the most story details we’ve seen so far. The trailer sets the scene with Moana coming home from an adventure with her trusty sidekicks Hei Hei and Pua. She reveals an artifact she found connected to “an ancient island cursed by a power hungry god.” Moana recruits a team to join her as she attempts to break the curse and unite her people once again. Of course, as they face monsters and angry gods, they’ll need a little help from the trickster demigod, Maui (Dwayne Johnson). Moana 2 sails into theaters on November 27, 2024.
Creature Commandos
The first trailer for the Creature Commandos adult-themed animated series teases a new team of villains and antiheroes. The trailer begins with Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) telling Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo) about the team she put together to handle an international incident that has been deemed too dangerous for humans. Then the team is quickly introduced, including the Bride of Frankenstein (Indira Varma), Eric Frankenstein (David Harbour), Doctor Phosphorus (Alan Tudyk), Weasel (Sean Gunn), Nina Mazursky (Zoë Chao), and G.I. Robot (Sean Gunn). Flagg attempts to lead the team on their special mission, which proves difficult with this group of violent monsters. It will start streaming on Max on December 5, 2024.
Nosferatu
So far, promotion of Nosferatu has only shown shadowy glimpses of Bill Skarsgård as Nosferatu, which continues in the latest trailer. Instead, the new footage focuses on how he is influencing various people, including Ellen Hutter (Lily-Rose Depp) who appears under his thrall. Her husband, Thomas (Nicholas Hoult), is frightened for his wife, while Professor Albin Eberhart Von Franz (Willem Dafoe) tries to warn people about how dangerous Nosferatu is. The trailer teases that Nosferatu is on his way, accompanied by shots of many different people behaving strangely as though they are possessed. It will premiere in theaters on December 25, 2024.
Goosebumps: The Vanishing
The trailer for Goosebumps: The Vanishing opens with Anthony (David Schwimmer) welcoming his kids Cece (Jayden Bartels) and Devin (Sam McCarthy) to his house for the summer, issuing the warning, “I only have one rule: stay out of the basement.” The basement in question is filled with plants and scientific equipment, which seems harmless at first. But Anthony is investigating his brother’s death and a major clue leads to something very strange happening with his plants. Cece and Devin start to notice that their father is behaving oddly, and when a kid disappears and the weirdness spreads, Cece, Devin, and their friends try to figure out what is happening before they vanish too. All eight episodes will arrive on Disney+ and Hulu on January 10, 2025.
Wolf Man
What if someone you loved became something else? That’s the question posed in the first trailer for the new Wolf Man. The trailer begins as a family tries to extricate themselves from a car accident. If the situation isn’t dangerous enough, the father (Christopher Abbott) gets scratched by an unseen beast then watches in horror as someone is dragged away. The family seeks refuge at an isolated house nearby where the father starts to go through frightening changes. At first, the mother (Julia Garner) tries to help him, but it is soon apparent that she must get her daughter (Matilda Firth) out of there before daddy becomes the thing from which she needs protecting. It will be released in theaters on January 17, 2025.
