The cover for January 1994’s Rune #0 was serialized with nine interlocking images, all flip books from Ultraverse’s October 1993 issues: Exiles #3, Firearm #2, Freex #4, Hardcase #5, Mantra #4, The Night Man #1, Prime #5, Prototype #3, and The Strangers #5.

Each of these issues, plus Sludge #1 and The Solution #2, had three pages from a serialized story revealing the origin of the vampire Rune, with story and art by Barry Windsor-Smith.
