Oni Press is providing a first look at their new revenge horror comic, Mine is a Long, Lonesome Grave #1. Written by Justin Jordan (The Strange Talent of Luther Strode) with art by Chris Shehan (House of Slaughter), the Appalachia set thriller will be in comic shops in February 2025.
Harley Creed is an ex-con who committed multiple violent crimes, and now that he’s out of prison, all Harley wants to do is leave Briar Falls, West Virginia and disappear. But Harley learns that he isn’t finished paying for his crimes yet when a hex is put on him, giving Harley only seven days to live before dying a terrible death. The only way to break the hex is to kill the person who put it on him – which proves difficult given the number of people in town that want him dead. Harley is ready to go after anyone who could be the culprit.
“Sad old men, revenge, witchcraft and Appalachian folk magic – just know I’ll be drawing all of this with a smile on my face the entire time,” Shehan said.
“I don’t get an opportunity to do as much crime as I want…” Jordan said. “Wait, no, I mean I don’t get a chance to do as much crime fiction as I would like, so getting to do a crime book that is also a horror book, my other favorite genre, has been awesome. And getting to set it in Appalachia, where I’m from, is just icing on the very brutal cake.”
Mine is a Long, Lonesome Grave #1 features covers by Shehan, Matthew Roberts, Kelsey Ramsay, Jeffrey Alan Love, and Jason Shawn Alexander. The first issue in the four-issue miniseries arrives on February 12.
