Captain Canuck, the patriotic Canadian superhero, is celebrating his 50th anniversary in 2025. Created by cartoonist Ron Leishman and artist-writer Richard Comely, the stalwart hero was introduced in Captain Canuck #1 (July 1975), published by Comely Comix. The first iteration of the character was Tom Evans, a costumed secret agent of the Canadian International Security Organization who gained powers from contact with extraterrestrials. It was set in the then-future of 1993 when “Canada had become the most powerful country in the world.”
In celebration of Captain Canuck’s anniversary, Lev Gleason Publications is selling Captain Canuck merchandise, including comics, graphic novels, and other material. First is the monthly limited edition t-shirt featuring cover art from the comic. They are limited to 50 per design.
Captain Canuck is partnering with the United Way booth at Fan Expo Vancouver on February 21-23, 2025. Comely will appear at the booth on Friday and Saturday at the show.
Lev Gleason Publications is also selling Captain Canuck action figures and dolls, a mug with the Canuck Club Camping enamel pin design, moleskin hardback notebook, Captain Canuck and Jakeman’s “Grade A Amber” pure maple syrup, Christmas cards and postcards, hoodies and hats, and more.
