Exquisite Corpses, the upcoming horror comic event series, is getting a companion trading card game. It will launch soon after the first season of the comics produced by Tiny Onion and Image Comics.

The comic series is led by established horror creators James Tynion IV (Something is Killing the Children) and Michael Walsh (The Silver Coin) who will collaborate with multiple writers and artists. Exquisite Corpses #1 debuts in May 2025 with the first 13-issue season.

Walsh, a frequent Magic: The Gathering artist, designed the trading card game in tandem with the comic series. Readers can start collecting cards that will be exclusively found in polybagged cover C variants of each issue.

“Michael showed up at that first story summit, six months before the rest of the team was there. He was like, ‘I think I have a game mechanic,’ and started drawing on all of these little dry erase cards, actually creating the stats for each of the characters in front of us,” Tynion IV said. “And then we played a version of the game right there at the summit, and it was incredibly fun. And we knew immediately that this could be something really, really cool.”

“My goal is to make this a game that fans can throw in their bag and take to a party, or throw in their luggage and play after a day at a convention,” Walsh said. “We wanted to create a game that is easy to pick up, but hard to put down.”

Details on gameplay have not been revealed, though it was announced that players can use the weapons of prominent killers in the comic. Tiny Onion described Exquisite Corpses: The Game as a combination of competitive games like Magic and party games like Ultimate Werewolf.

“Whether this is their very first card game or they attend weeklies at their local game shop, fans will be able to pick up and play Exquisite Corpses: The Game and have a blast,” Tiny Onion Director of Editorial Eric Harburn said. “This is a widely accessible game with deceptive complexity; fans will be able to play as their favorite killer from the series, with each killer possessing unique skills that can harmonize or clash with the other killers in play. No two games are alike, and trust us: you’ll want to play more than one.”

Exquisite Corpses #1 will be a double-length 60-page issue that arrives in comic shops on May 14. It features a main cover by Walsh and Jordie Bellaire, cover B by James Stokoe, polybagged cover C by Walsh, plus incentive variant covers by Jenny Frison, Alex Eckman-Lawn, Nimit Malavia, and Jae Lee and June Chung.
