This issue of Buffy the Vampire Slayer could be called “Willow the Restless.” In the last issue, Willow made a huge decision to split her soul with Xander to save him from becoming a full fledged vampire. Now she’s dealing with the repercussions of that decision which include tiredness, disconnect, and an issue-long trippy dream that sees her battling her inner dark side.

In the last issue, we got a glimpse of Dark Willow and it looks like the comic is planning to speed up her growth into that character. In this issue, Jordie Bellaire makes Willow aware of her dark side a lot sooner than in the show and presumably before she’s become a witch. Will this impact her decision to practice witchcraft? That remains to be seen.

Keeping Xander as a half-vampire is a very gutsy choice considering his being fully, normal human was a major part of his character on the show. Hopefully there’s a good plan in place to handle that situation.
