The Roku miniseries comes to a crashing, bloody end in issue 4. Despite spending much of the last issue trading punches, Roku and Ember-1 have teamed up to face a common enemy – the Minister of Blades and his sharp, sharp knives. While both Roku and Ember-1 plan to keep Marybeth, the incredibly powerful little girl, alive, he doesn’t have any qualms about bringing her in dead.

This miniseries by Cullen Bunn was fun and fast. There isn’t a lot of time spent on character development, but moments shine through that show Roku is more than just a highly dangerous assassin. The action was great throughout, seen through exciting and well defined art.

Several of Valiant’s main characters operate in morally ambiguous areas, which makes for some interesting, thought provoking reading. Roku is an enjoyable member of that crew and it would be nice to see her back in another series.
