Allegiance Arts; $4.99

All of the comics from new publisher Allegiance Arts are beautifully put together with uniform production values that support strong, accessible stories and superb art. Even though the comics are physically only 24 pages, they feel like more.

They are only two issues in to each of their four titles, so it might be a bit much to crown one as the best of the bunch, but if there is a best of the bunch it’s Norah’s Saga by writer Blake Northcutt and artist Kelsey Shannon.

After moving to a new school, teenager Norah Karlsson found herself on a quest just to fit in. One wrong turn with her dad, though, and she ended up on a much different quest in a distant, murky past where Norse legends rule the day.

As with the first issue, the pacing, dialogue, storytelling, and finished art are in an almost impossible groove. Northcutt’s new stint on Catwoman is attracting a lot of attention at the moment. Nothing against that book, but if there was any justice Norah’s Saga is the one for which people would be going nuts.

Reader's note: Norah's Saga and the other three Allegiance Arts titles are thus far only available at Walmart and on Walmart.com. We hope they'll come to comic shops and do so soon. All are beautifully produced. I can only recommend purchasing them in person as five of the eight issues todate have arrived damaged from Walmart.com. Allegiance Arts has some serious issues to address with Walmart, but none in the quality of their product.
