IDW has published a facsimile edition of the classic one-shot, Star Trek: The Next Generation: The Gift #1. Originally published in 1990, the oversized issue tells a harrowing story about Captain Jean-Luc Picard being tormented and tested by the devious Q. Things are going well on the Enterprise, so naturally Q shows up to dismantle their harmony. He spirits Picard away for a mind game and painful “what if” scenario.

Not only does this issue present another life or death conundrum orchestrated by Q, it was written by the Q actor himself, John de Lancie. It reads like a Next Generation episode and the art is a pleasant reminder of the style from 30 years ago. This book is a great refresher for Star Trek comic fans or a nice entry for those who are newer to the comics.
