In the second issue of BRZRKR, we learn that his creation came when his people begged for a protector. He does exactly what he was created for, but that level of violence and mayhem takes a toll. B is both disheartened by his role as dog of war and sated by the carnage.

More details about B’s past are unlocked in this issue by Keanu Reeves and Matt Kindt. It’s an exploration of nature versus nurture as we see his earliest years, what he does to make his parents happy, and how it is affecting his disposition.

Much of BRZRKR is about the brutal violence, as seen in the art by Ron Garney and colors by Bill Crabtree, but it’s also an exploration of how people respond to war and battle after the fact. This was a thought provoking issue and is definitely worth the read.
